Women History Month

Women History Month

It is National Women’s History Month and what better way to celebrate than to shine a light on some women who have been rocking natural and protective hairstyles long before it was a trend.

India Arie

India Arie has been rocking her natural hair for a longtime. She even made a song telling women to embrace themselves because they are more than their hair. She has been a trend setter when it comes to the natural styles from afros, to locs, to even a bald head.

Angela Davis

Angela Davis does not need an introduction. She is the queen of the Black Panther Party. Angela Davis has been standing up for not only people of color but women of color. She is strong, powerful, and intelligent. Angela has been rocking her afro since the 70s and she hasn’t stopped.

Brandy

Brandy was rocking braids before anybody. Sis stepped on the scene in braids and rocked them for a lonnnnnnggg time. She still keeps her a fresh set of braids. She always keeps them so cute and neat and for that we love the queen of protective hairstyles.

Ava DuVernay

Ava DuVernay is a force to be reckoned with. Rocking her long locs, every movie she pens is a hit. She has an eye for great films and an eye for amazing loc styles. Ava wears her locs long, in a bun, and pinned up. Each style is unique and beautiful.

Issa Rae

Issa Rae is the “awkward black girl” that we all love. Many were introduced to Issa Rae from her hit series ‘Insecure’, but she was a YouTube star way before. She rocked a low cut in the YouTube series and then eventually grew it out. Issa has the personality to match her beautiful coils.
